I’ve created Carom to bring to the community a space to come together over good food, drink and conversation, while supporting local producers and small businesses.
Our food menu is inspired by India, and our recipes rooted in tradition, but not bound by it.
We roast and grind many of our spice blends, including our homemade masala chai. We never use artifical colours or flavouring.
We’ve carefully selected our suppliers, working with some of the best in Surrey, to reduce carbon miles and to bring you exceptional quality, while supporting fellow local businesses. Where we need to, for our naans for example, we travel for great products.
We use sustainable packaging and tableware as much as we can, and our Thali night and Supper Club experiences are all to pre-order, to reduce food waste.
Find out more about our some of our suppliers below:
Coffee beans
Our coffee beans come from Chimney Fire, Dorking, who share our ethos in sourcing directly from growers and producers - over 90% of their coffee is sourced directly. Freshly ground beans in every cup. We’ve done our tastings and have chosen a house blend that we really enjoy and hope you will too. We’re looking forward to introducing a guest single origin every few months for you to sample, once we’re settled in.
We also love that their packaging is compostable!
BREAD
Our baps and sourdough are from Surrey based artisan bakery, Cavan. We love that they’ve been baking since 1929 using quality ingredients and traditional methods, baking fresh every day.
Our delicious naans are baked in Southall. A little bit of travelling to source the best!
meat
All our meat is from East Horsley based, F.Conisbee & Son. The oldest family butchers in Surrey, in business since 1760. The ninth generation now provides quality meat, either from their own farms spanning 1800 acres or from other local farms where they can endorse the high standards of farming husbandry that they abide by themselves.
eggs
Our eggs are from Joy Farms, in West Horsley, where the Joy family’s hens have produced lovely free range eggs for almost a century. Three generations of farming with one single aim - great tasting eggs. Their hens roam freely across chalky grass fields, enjoying the space, a natural diet and excellent care.
VEGETABLES & FRUIT
We use Bookham based Layton’s Greengrocers because we think the quality of the produce they source is excellent, and they’re as local as you can get!
honey
Our honey is from two lovely local beekeeping ventures: The Little Bee Garden, an artisanal family-run venture whose hives are located close to RHS Wisley, so their bees benefit from the garden’s remarkable diversity, and well loved small-scale beekeepers, Dorking and Westcott Honey, who have been caring for their bee colonies from 2017.
BAKES
Small family business, Bramble Cottage Crafts, run by Alison, is based in South Holmwood, and they’ve created a bespoke range of sweet treats for us that celebrate Indian spices and flavours. Great ingredients and lots of love in every bite. Handmade in small batches, using traditional methods and a touch of culinary flair. Alison’s bakes pair wonderfully with our hot beverages.
CHOCOLATES
Great Taste Award finalists for the last couple of years, Sweet C’s make decadent handcrafted chocolates using the finest grade chocolate sourced directly from a certified B Corp supplier in Colombia, ensuring every step from bean to bar is environmentally conscious, including their packaging! We love their ethos and that they’re Bookham based.
