London lunches: Tuga, Hammersmith

I had about forty-five minutes yesterday afternoon between getting to my train station and getting on the train, so I decided to stop by Portuguese restaurant Tuga for lunch.

Grilled sea bass

And what a glorious lunch. I couldn’t decide if I wanted assorted tapas with bread and olives or a salad or a large main, and after much menu-studying and re-studying, I asked for the grilled sea-bass with grilled potatoes and grilled aubergines.

Tuga, on King Street in Hammersmith, is just a little way from Noodles & Magic. The first time I had Portuguese food was only a year or so ago as a celebratory lunch at work. I’d loved it, and was looking forward to my meal at Tuga.

There weren’t too many people around, the sunlight was streaming into the restaurant, staff was warm and friendly, and the menu looked great.

My meal arrived, piping hot. A whole seabass, beautifully flavoured with garlic, olive oil and parsley, the skin perfectly crispy and the flesh tender and juicy. The new potatoes and aubergines were a lovely complement. I loved it so, I don’t think I put my fork and knife down till I’d finished.

Gorgeous.
